I understand that account security is a hot topic right now, but this doesn't really have anything directly to do with Guild Wars. Moved to off-topic.

Default Scam Email or Legit Email sent to wrong person?

Only asking because I recently got a muddle up with ncsoft, and an email not meant for me was sent to me. Also I don't own an Aion account.

I just got this email, and the address doesn't seem to be fake:

Aion Penalties For Illegal Trading‏
From: NCsoft Support ([email protected]) . (me)
Sent: Friday, 8 January 2010 10:01:48 a.m.
To: (oops my email)
When you receive this message means you Aion Account means the existence of multiple irregularities in the recent transactions.
The move has violated the interests of other players, so please visit our web site : https://secure.ncsoft.com/login as soon as possible verification your account, Otherwise, we will lock your Aion Account.

See you in Atreia! May your wings be strong and swift!

The Aion Team

Is it fake or should I let them know that I dont have an Aion account and its been sent to the wrong account.

My guess would be if you want to report it to ncsoft go through their website (not the link in your e-mail) and tell it to them through support ticket. That way you don't take any risk and can let them know that you don't have an account.

I would always be precautious but since that one looks like it may be semi-legit you can go to the real support site on your own and let them know that you don't have an account and show the copy of the e-mail.

It's fake. Always mouse over links and check that the destination URL is what the text actually says.

EDIT: Also, the grammar is something of a dead giveaway. And posting your email address on public forums is not a smart move.

Yeah in my personal opinion whenever you get any email from a company you gave your info to,just go to their site yourself.Never click on the links. If you go to the site, you should be able to find out of its real or not.At least doing it that way you have less chance of being cheated is smaller.

Yes smart hackers could spoof a website but that is a much smaller chance then clicking on a wrong link.

On the concerning email,I would say it looks weird, it looks like something a person that doesn't write english that well wrote. "When you receive this message means you Aion Account means" huh? Also even if you dont use the email you should not post it, it doesnt help us to help you , there is no need for us to know it for us to help you,so might as well blank it.

Yeah, it's fake. I've been getting daily e-mails from "Blizzard" warning me to update my WoW account because it has suspicious activity on it. (Note: I've never played WoW)

The first few Blizzard e-mails told me to go to www.worldofwarcarft.com, but the last few have the link spelled correctly. Yet if you mouseover the link the address at the bottom of the browser is something like www.worldofwarcraftaccountsecuritysite.ne

I got the same email and after a little bit of inspection decided it would be better off deleted.

The grammar is an obvious give-away that this is not legit. The vagueness also suggests that this is not legit.

You should know by now that ANYONE asking for details and information via email is scamming you.

Report that sob and be done with it.

Support@nsoft.com? Read carefully and you'll notice it's a scam.

Thank you to the member's that did respond to my question.

I will not ask anymore questions in any of these forums because I think you are being very off topic and absurb.

you must understand the train of thought. GURU thinks it has it's ass covered, so now they will just brush security issues neatly aside. It's Aion/Ncsoft's problem. Not theirs. at least it sure seems that way, doesn't it?

Who says we have our asses covered?

Riverside is for Guild Wars discussion. Aion =/= Guild Wars.

don't take it the wrong way, GWG is locked, by no default of their pwn, into the current situation. If I were an Aion user, I would come here and post(get things done FTW!?), before doing so on the Aion board. Guild wars users are just being concerned about the well being of their accounts, and it seems rightfully so as -most- of the posts rolling in now have no affiliation with Aion just NCsoft. it's kinda clear what the 3rd parties are after though. isn't it?

Just received the same email as the OP, which orignally came from a hotmail address (was going to paste the address but I'm sure someone will sand in their vag over it) .

Times must be hard if the staff at NCsoft can't type in English and are having to resort to hotmail instead of their own mail servers.

The thing that intrigues me is where the got my email addy from. I have no interest in Aion and have never signed up to any sort of Aion site. The only sites that are vaguely linked to Aion/NCsoft/GW that have my email are here, gwonline (if that's even still around?), and NCsoft itself. Soooo, which is the leak?
